Journal’s entity

This is a peer reviewed academic journal published by the Faculty of Communication of the University of Piura.

 

Objectives

The publication aims to disseminate high quality theoretical, philosophical, empirical and methodological material of issues regarding communication, developed in both academical and practitioner scenarios. The editorial judgment driving this journal is the advancement of knowledge gained through research on diverse communication issues and its practice.

 

The content and criteria for selection of articles for the journal shall be in accordance with the purposes underlying the founding ideas that drive the University of Piura.

 

Thematic Areas

Journalism studies, advertising, broadcast and film studies, political communication, Information and Communication´s technology, ethics, communication policy, political economy and new media, public opinion, consumer behavior, etc.

 

Target audience

International in scope and open to scholars and researchers from around the world, Revista de Comunicación attempts to cover a range of topics within the field of communication and media studies.

 

Periodicity

It is a semi-annual periodical journal: it is published in March and September

 

Content

The following kind of contents is particularly appropriate material to be included in the journal:

 

• In general studies that deal with different areas of the professional practice of communication: journalism, advertising, audiovisual communication, etc., as well as related topics such as: consumer behavior, public opinion, ethics, information law, new media, media economics, etc.

 

• Review or reply to previously published articles or research theories that account contribution to the advancement of knowledge and have a substantial extension.

 

• Exploratory or descriptive work to establish new fields of inquiry, that prompt relevant issues that can be addressed in future studies.

 

• Studies that identify solutions to problems and grant various issues related to practice of communication.

 

• Theoretical or conceptual works that posit new perspectives, explanations or viewpoints regarding issues referred to diverse fields of communication.

 

• Works that provide an integrated body of literature of a particular field, that help identify gaps in knowledge, or synthesize scattered knowledge into an integrative scope of various communication disciplines around a common topic of interest.

 

Sections

The Journal has three sections:

 

Research papers: Academic material that presents, in detail, the original results of research projects. The structure of the article should approximate the following format: introduction; theoretical framework and / or literature review; methodology; results; discussion; conclusions; bibliographic references..

 

Working papers: Dissemination academic material, oriented to the identification of problems in the profession and its possible solutions, as well as studies that introduce new fields of work, which usually requires an early diffusion. The structure should be approached in the following format: introduction; development; argumentation; conclusions; bibliographic references..

 

Book reviews of recent publications in the field of communication.

 

Manuscript extension

Articles should be a minimum of 5,000 words and a maximum of 10,000 words. Bibliography is not considered within these ranges. Each manuscript must be accompanied by an abstract of 150 words maximum, in Spanish and English. Authors should also include up to six keywords, both in Spanish and English.


Language

The journal accepts research works written in Spanish as well as in English.
All foreign words within the manuscripts must be presented using italic typeface.

 

Format and References

All work must be submitted using Times New Roman, in typeface point 12, double spaced. Pages should be numbered in the lower right corner. The author must specify their name, affiliation, contact information and ORCID on a sheet separate from the rest of the manuscript, that information must not appear inside of the text.

Tables and figures

Tables and figures must follow the format APA (6), be listed and have foot indicating the source of the table or figure. The images are presented in JPG format in high resolution, over 1000px high and 300 DPI.

 

 

Receiving articles

 

The usual deadline for receipt of originals, according edition is:
- May 15, for the September issue and
- September 30, for the March.

 

Sending articles

Authors who wish to contribute to the journal must send 3 files: Cover, Manuscript and Declaration of originality to the e-mail of the Revista de Comunicación rcom@udep.pe and indicate the section to which they present their text. The editorial board will verify that texts meet certain minimum requirements specified in Style Guidelines.

 

Arbitration system

 

All received, original and unpublished articles will be refereed. The texts approved will be sent without specifying the name of the author to two external evaluators. These valued possible publication.

The Revista de Comunicación uses the double-blind procedure (anonymity of authors and reviewers). When one of the two assessments is negative, a third report will be requested.


The Editorial Board decides to accept or reject a paper for its publication on the basis of evaluation reports. A form - available to the authors- reflects the opinion on the quality of the papers: relevance, originality and clarity of exposition.

 

All authors will receive an answer via e.mail on the fifth after the closing date of each edition week. Evaluation criteria may ponder each manuscript as: approved as submitted, approved with minor modifications, or not approved. 


If the article is approved with modifications, the author/s has a three week period to incorporate the changes. Then the editor, along with external evaluators, will verify that these changes have been made. If so, the manuscript will be valued as concluded. If not, will be dismissed.


External reviewers

For qualifying all submitted material and the assessment of possible publication, the blind peer review system also acknowledges referees external to the Faculty of Communication of the University of Piura.


Indexing and databases

The Revista de Comunicación is indexed in SCOPUS, DOAJ, LATINDEX, REBIUNREDIB, DIALNET, MIAR, C&MMI, CONFIBERCOM, JSM, EBSCO, ERIH+, MENDELEY, etc. journals database.

 

Book Reviews

The reviews will have a maximum length of 1 000 words and are presented in the format indicated in the
Style Guidelines.
