Interpersonal communication as a tool in Robert Park's sociological theory

The pragmatism of Chicago school is important to understand the theoretical origins of the communication in the XIX century. From this point of view, the phenomenon of interpersonal communication was fundamental to the social configuration of the human groups, provided the terms communication and interaction were understanding like synonyms. However, the central preocupation of Chicago school wasn’t focused in the communicative phenomenon, but in the social one. The communication became in a essential element, but instrumental, that set social structures but it doesn’t have own entity. This article presents this view through the sociological proposal of Robert Park, one of the most prominent representatives of Chicago school and communication theorist also.
